Jan Žídek, a student from the Gastronomy and Services Secondary School in Liberec, under the guidance of the head chef of the Clarion Grandhotel Zlatý Lev, Robert Sklenář, won the gold medal in the biggest culinary competition in Slovakia, “Žilinská gastronomická jeseň”. As the only representatives from the Czech Republic, they won the Junior category, in which they presented a venison sirloin steak with fresh raspberry sauce and roast pumpkin, chestnuts and walnuts.
Jan Žídek, who is in his second year at the Gastronomy and Services Secondary School in Liberec, has been working at Clarion Grandhotel Zlatý Lev since July this year. Under the guidance of experienced head chef Robert Sklenář, he also succeeded in last year’s Olima Cup 2016 in the Cook Cadet category. The Žilinská gastronomická jeseň competition is the largest culinary competition in Slovakia, and apart from competitions, this, its 5th edition, also offered demonstrations of culinary products, wine tasting sessions, and introduced innovations from the world of gastronomy and current cooking trends.
