This Saturday, the first singles semi-final match of the FED Cup will take place, in which Lucie Šafářová will compete against French representative Caroline Garcia. Two-time Wimbledon winner and fourth seeded player Petra Kvitová will play the second match against Kristina Mladenovicová. The Czech team is staying as usual at the Clarion Congress Hotel, which is situated right next to the Ostrava ČEZ Arena, where the semi-finals will take place. The Czech tennis players, led by trainer Petr Pála, arrived at the Clarion in Ostrava on Monday. Radim Beneš, manager of the Clarion Congress Hotel Ostrava, personally supervised assurance of the faultless comfort of the FED CUP teams and welcomed the tennis players with a rose in his hand.
“The players had no special requirements, they arrived in good spirits and, in spite of the fact that our hotel is nearly fully occupied during the FED Cup, our goal is to assure the players as much peace as possible to allow them to prepare for their matches,” Radim Beneš said. As well as sports preparation and tactical planning, the tennis players also performed social obligations, the Thursday official gala dinner took place in the Diamant hall for over one hundred guests and was also attended by the president of the American Tennis Association (USTA) Jane Brown Grimes, representatives of the International Tennis Association, representatives of the City of Ostrava and sponsors, as well as the players and realisation teams. A piano accompanied a terrine of smoked trout with pea mousse and lime essence and a soup of yellow peppers with marinated vegetables. The main course was confit of duck breast with potato purée with apples and sour-cherry sauce. The dessert was Grand Marnier orange cream with almond cake and mint foam.
“The dinner was held in a celebratory spirit and we were pleased to hear only praise in relation to the menu created by head chef Otto Kokoszynski. Only the French tennis players requested doping in the form of ice cream, which they were looking forward to.” Radim Beneš revealed with a smile.
